Aristotle once wrote, "The rule of law is better than the
rule of any individual." The rule of law simply means, no one is above the
law. Many countries base their governments upon the grounds of this law. One of
the countries that is governed based on this law is the great nation called the
United States of America. For the most part, most of our police officers abide
by this rule, but a few seem to overlook it. An example of officers who
overlook this rule are, the four officers that brutally assaulted Los Angeles
resident, Rodney King on March 3, 1991. Sergeant Stacey Koon, Timothy
Wind, Theodore Briseno, and Laurence Powell simply forgot that their job
as a police officer is to protect the citizens from fear, and not
make the citizens fear them.
